MAFI Ballast Weights

Request a Quote

Wheel traction plays a crucial role in pulling drawbar trailers. To prevent wheelspin when pulling away, ballast weights can be mounted on the tractor to enhance tractor weight distribution. Depending on the expected payload, the ballast can weigh up to several tons. Tire air pressure must also be set correctly to maintain a proper contact patch. You may ask, what are tractor weights made of? Generally, they consist of a steel box filled with concrete or some other dense material and are fitted with lifting and attaching devices. Several different types are available and either fixed or removable versions can be installed. Fixed ballast weights are permanently mounted on the tractor and can be in the form of tractor suitcase weights or saddle weights attached to either side of the tractor. Removable ballast weights can be parked in a separate rack and picked up by tractors with a hydraulic, liftable fifth wheel, however, it should be noted that heavy hitch weights can come with this type of ballast.
